Excalibur (1981) Film screening

Be transported to a striking version of Camelot with our screening of director John Boorman’s classic film Excalibur (1981), in the Great Hall of Newcastle’s Castle Keep.

Tickets for this event will go on sale at precisely 12 midday on Friday 4 August, via the 'Buy Tickets' link at the bottom of this page.

All the elements of the legend are here in what is thought of by many to be the definitive version of the legend: Arthur (Nigel Terry) removing the sword from the stone; the Knights of the Round Table; the unpredictable wizard Merlin (Nicol Williamson) and evil sorceress Morgana (Helen Mirren). Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson also appear in notable early screen roles.

Please note: This film screening takes place in the Great Hall of Newcastle Castle Keep which is unfortunately inaccessible to wheelchair users. Doors will open at approximately 6.30pm.

The Keep is a Scheduled Ancient Monument without any central heating, so therefore has a tendency to get quite cold. However, what it lacks in warmth, it certainly makes up for in atmosphere. The Great Hall is also only accessible via a steep flight of spiral stairs. Therefore, we recommend that you wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Strictly ages 15+. Contains scenes of strong violence and sex. No-one younger than 15 may see this film, and we reserve the right to refuse ticket holders entry without valid ID.
