Learning

Newcastle Castle combines two of the most historic buildings in Newcastle with modern facilities and resources to create a fantastic hub for learning about the history and heritage of the city and region. Our learning program is run by a dedicated Learning Officer and an enthusiastic team of volunteers, and encompasses school visits, community events, outreach, CPD for teachers and student placements.

We can offer a variety of workshops and sessions tailored to fit the National Curriculum, but we are also happy to offer self-led visits and to offer bespoke workshops. We cover a huge range of the city’s heritage, including the building of the Castle and the medieval history of Newcastle, the changing face of the city over time, the Tudors, as well as the darker side of history – witches, plague and execution.

We also run a wide variety of events, lectures, lifelong learning courses and have a close working relationship with Newcastle’s Society of Antiquaries and our neighbours, St Nicholas Cathedral.
