Knight School
Perfect for Key Stage 1 and 2. Knight School is an active hands on workshop where children will learn all about the training of knights, from their training as pages and squires to the knighting ceremony itself.
Castles and Courts
Ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. Castles and Courts looks at the Castle as a place for the royalty and nobility of medieval times, by looking at medieval food and feasts.
Medieval Crime and Punishment
Ideal for Key Stage 3 or 4 pupils learning about crime and punishment through time or specifically about medieval realms, or for KS2 if you want to look at a grislier side of castle life. This workshop’s activities look at the role of the Castle as a prison and criminal court.
The Black Death
Suitable for KS 2, 3 or 4 pupils, this workshop would be great for pupils studying the effects of the Black Death at KS3, or looking at local history and the plague in Newcastle in 1636 at KS2. At KS4 you could compare the Black Death to other epidemics as part of a depth study.
Medieval Medicine
Suitable for KS 2, 3 or 4 pupils, this workshop introduces the theories and practice of medicine in the medieval period, from the four humours to leechings! It could be used as part of a KS2 post 1066 study, or for KS3 or 4 pupils studying aspects of the medieval period or medicine through time.
The Normans in the North
Ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. The Normans in the North looks at the Norman invasion of England in 1066 and its effects on the local area.
The Story of Newcastle
Designed for KS2 pupils learning about the history of their local area, this fun workshop uses drama and archaeology to teach all about the history of Newcastle from the Romans to the present day.
Fairy Tales
Ideal for Key Stage 1 pupils doing traditional tales as part of their literacy, or a general Castles topic. This workshop explores the Castle as the classic fairy tale setting in traditional stories and legends.
Witches and Witchcraft
This workshop would be well suited to Key Stage 2 classes doing a local history study about the Witch trials in Newcastle in 1649, or studying the book Walking With Witches by Lynn Huggins-Cooper. Alternatively it would make a great trip out around Hallowe’en!
