Meet the Medieval Pilgrims

  • Newcastle Castle The Black Gate, Castle Garth Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1RQ United Kingdom (map)

The Castle’s in house medieval re-enactors have been on pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady in Gesmuth (that’s Jesmond to you and me). Having paid their respects to Our Lady they’re heading back in a rowdy rabble towards Newcastle Castle, over the Town Moor and down the ancient Pilgrim Street!

They’ll be setting off from St Mary’s Chapel in Jesmond Dene at about 11am and making their way back to the Castle. They’re hoping to arrive at the Cathedral sometime before 1pm, and then head back to the Castle for about 1:30pm. If you want to join them en route feel free!

If you’re visiting the Castle, our resident medieval chef will be in residence cooking up something tasty for their return, and you can have a go at making your own medieval Pilgrim’s Badge. When they’re back you can meet and chat with the Pilgrims, who will all have a tale or two to tell!
