It’s half term at Newcastle Castle and we’ve got all sorts going on for kids and families (and grown ups, quite frankly!) All activities are included in your annual pass at no extra cost, though donations are always welcome.
Knight School
Every day between Monday 19th February and Sunday 25th February
10am - 3:30pm
Join one of the Castle garrison’s resident squires in the Great Hall of the Keep. They’ll help you try on armour and wield weapons (good selfie opportunity!) as well as training your children in the proper use of a sword! Suitable for ages 5+
Family Crafts
Every day between Monday 19th February and Friday 23rd February
11am - 4pm
Our volunteer Kathy will be in the Harbottle Suite each day with a selection of family friendly medieval themed crafts - try some brass rubbing, or make your own medieval spoon person! Suitable fort all ages (with a bit of help with the scissors!)
Archery
Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd February
10:30am - 3pm
Let your kids complete their mandatory archery practice with our volunteer Peter. He’ll be down in the chapel taking pot shots at Girard the Guard. Ages 7+ (probably a bit younger too if you help them!)
Castle Characters
Monday 19th, Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th February
10am - 3pm
Come and meet our medieval castle characters in the Keep this half term! Matilda the Barber Surgeon and her gruesome cures (Mon and Fri); noble prisoner Mary Bruce; wealthy merchant Isolde of Pandon (Mon, Thu and Fri), and skillful seamstress Annette (Sat). They’re all friendly and up for a chat about their lives in medieval Newcastle.
