“Great knowledge, well delivered, friendly helpful staff. A joy to experience. Brilliant help with organising.”

- Year 2 Teacher

A full day visit to Newcastle Castle generally lasts between 10am and 2pm, with a 30 minute break for lunch at around 12pm. On a full day we would take your pupils on a guided tour of the Castle site and the Keep, and then come back to the Black Gate where we would lead one of our range of workshops.

If you don’t have a full day, we can take you on a guided tour of the Castle in about 90 minutes, or can run a quick workshop with you in either the Keep or the Black Gate.

Our workshops are all designed to meet the needs of the National Curriculum and cover a wide range of topics. They are all made up of a variety of activities to keep the children interested throughout, and focus as much as possible on hands-on learning.

Our learning room, the Harbottle Suite in the Black Gate, doubles up as our indoor lunch space. It’s warm and comfy, has two toilets (one accessible) and a little kitchen space. We even provide teas and coffees for the teachers!

Prices

Full day (tour and workshop): £7.50 per pupil

Half day (tour or workshop): £4 per pupil

Self led (entry to castle only): £3 per pupil

Use of the lunch room is included in a full day visit. For half day or self-led visits, there is a charge of £30 per day for use of the lunch room.

Newcastle Castle is a great place to bring your primary school class for a visit, whether you’re doing Castles, Fairy Tales or similar as a topic in Key Stage 1, or whether you’re learning about local history in KS2, or you just want an exciting day out!

Being able to explore a real life Castle Keep will set the children’s imaginations racing, and our range of exciting workshops full of hands on activities will give them a day out they will never forget.

We are also developing a range of video lessons and activities that you can download and use in your classroom, either before or after your visit, to enhance your learning. Send an email to our Learning Officer to enquire about these exciting opportunities.

We offer a range of options including self-led visits and visits led by our dedicated Learning team.

Just get in touch with our Learning Officer to book your visit or make an enquiry: learning@newcastlecastle.co.uk or by telephone (0191) 230 6300
